An unusual tale about the evolution of human beings and their impact on the planet, in which we still have time, as in the story, to write a happy ending.

From all of us at ACCIONA, we’d like, in an enchanting way, full of hope, to communicate to you the importance of our commitment to sustainable development. We are convinced that there is a different way to pursue business, an alternative where caring for the environment takes center stage.

Climate change is a threat to the planet which has already begun to attack powerfully in the form of desertification, flooding, extinction of species, etc. If we do nothing, this tale will end sooner than we think. Our weapons for halting its advance lie at the heart of this Company: the development of renewable energies and infrastructure based on sustainable solutions. In ACCIONA, we are working so that this story we share with you becomes the true history of the future of our planet.

Once upon a time...
Once upon a time, there was a planet called Earth. It had magnificent landscapes, majestic mountains, great oceans and marvelous animals.
For thousands of years, human beings lived in harmony with the Earth, receiving from it all the resources they could need.
Ever motivated by progress, they achieved great and new things for their species...
...erecting huge cities that included everything they could dream of, inventing fast transport and building big factories to supply their new needs.
As humans advanced, they needed even more resources and the balance of the Earth began to change.
Some forests became deserts. The poles began to melt. For the first time, humans thought they might lose everything they had achieved.
Finally, however, they came to understand the message the Earth was sending them and began to research new solutions that would allow them to keep advancing in a sustainable way, protecting the Earth and caring for its inhabitants.
And this is how they found a way of converting wind and sun into the clean energy they needed to thrive.
They discovered innovative and efficient solutions to transform their cities and transport networks.
They ensured everyone had access to water and understood that everyone was needed to help in designing a better planet.
And they lived happily ever after
This is how human beings, their children, and their children’s children, came once more to inhabit the Earth in harmony.

Evoking life through daily objects

When, at ACCIONA, we brainstormed the idea of telling a story about the importance of caring for the Earth, we thought the best way of doing so would be through something connected to daily routine. This is why each scene in “A tale for a better planet” is a miniature diorama full of imagination, in which many of the objects we use in our day-to-day lives are used as props to illustrate other things: a nutshell becomes a fishing boat, a sprig of broccoli is a tree in a lush forest, for example.

The production that has gone into this charming story has been a creative adventure. Finding ways of representing each of ACCIONA’s businesses - renewable energy, water treatment, infrastructure construction and sustainable transport, and services – has been a challenge for our imaginations. Thinking of an ice bucket for a tank in a sewage plant, making solar panels from memory cards, the idea of a USB fan representing a wind turbine, and designing a factory from food cans, all came out of a laborious, meticulous and very recreational and fun (why not?) work project. The result is this precious allegory with which we aspire to raise awareness as to why it is so important that we design a better planet.
