  • Marc Gasol: a champion committed to the planet

    Marc Gasol has lived through a quite brilliant and intense season among basketball’s elite. His career at the highest level is like that of a long-distance runner who, despite the solitude and hardship of the race, keeps going till he reaches the winning line. A fighter, leader, man of integrity, these are just some of his many attributes.

    Gasol is a star of the NBA: second player in its history to win the NBA championship (with the Toronto Raptors) and the Basketball World Cup (with Spain) in the same season; three times named in the All-Star; voted best defense in the NBA in 2013, and; best pivot in 2015.

    Distinctions that show the respect the basketball world has for Marc Gasol, a player with an extraordinary talent he has had to adapt and reinvent many times over his career to arrive at such a stellar level.

    That’s Marc on the court. Off court, his commitment to society and the environment is indisputable too. He tends his own allotment, promotes healthy living, practices sustainable mobility by driving an electric car, and we saw him on the vessel Open Arms in the middle of the Mediterranean helping to rescue a group of migrants.
